Reaction to the DNC

I have been watching the Democratic National Convention at the United Center in Chicago as much as I can. Tonight, I plan to tune into CSPAN only for Kamala Harris’ speech. I am worn out with all the talking and, as Michelle Obama suggested, am ready to “Do Something!”

These quadrennial conventions are a chance to bring out the long-time members of the party to remind us of who we are. The Reverend Jesse Jackson was pushed on stage in a wheelchair and waved. Like Jackson, some of our most popular figures are aging.

President Biden, former presidents Obama and Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi looked as if they lost the edge of their speaking ability. This is distressing regarding Barack Obama in that he is only 63 years old. Their delivery wasn’t as sharp as other speakers or as a former version of themselves. Their speaking ability did not match the energy of the delegates in the arena. Each of these speakers reminded us of who we are as Democrats and in doing so, played an important role in the convention. My only beef was that Bill Clinton should have learned how to pronounce our Vice President’s first name.

Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama did well with delivery of their speeches. Oprah Winfrey got a prime speaking spot and gave us a history lesson. The women fared better in speech delivery than the men. Any more, that just seems normal to me.

As speakers keep reminding us, there are only 75 days left until the election. It’s go time. It’s time to do the things we know we should do to get out the vote and bring everyone we can under the tent.

It will be challenging, yet we are not going back.

I’ve been around a long time and have seen quite a handful of DNC conventions. The 08 convention was a breath of fresh air after 8 years of enduring GW. This convention seemed very very different in that they (the attendees and speakers) seemed much more fired up. Included a handful of Republicans warning us to the fact that this election is hugely important and that our democracy could indeed be lost. Michelle Obama knocked it out of the park but I thought all of the speakers and speeches were quite good. Enough to keep me watching all 4 nights. The energy at the convention was definitely with the women. They are gonna come out to the polls in droves for this election and put an end to this DJT nightmare.

It is also time to say as voters we are holding your feet to the fire to find ways to accomplish our goals. Not cave in to those who want to undo what is right and just that we believe to be neccessary. Enough of this big ag crap that is poisoning our drinking water and creating the terrible rates of cancer to increase in this state! Enough of paying people to make money off our government by allowing then grants and aid to build CO2 pipelines under the supposed need to lower a greenhouse gas, when Nitrous Oxide from over use of fertilizer is far worse and lasts considerably longer in the atmosphere! While at the sametime these pipelines are dangerous to the public at large and can displace oxygen so fast in a leak of explosion it risks the lives of humans as well as livestock and wild animals. I might add, the smoking gun is how this gas is going to be “locked up” in the ground will also aid in the recovery of oil in oil sands! All of which will keep the oil and gas industry akive and well fueling our inefficent and polluting cars and trucks!
